Are you wandering around the internet looking for ways on how you can start a blog? You are in luck! I have here the perfect solution for you. You will learn how to start your own blog where you can generate income in the future.
This post will walk you through on how you can start your very own blog. From domain name, web hosting to installing WordPress. I’ve got you covered.
Did you know that you can also make EXTRA MONEY, while blogging? Yes, you read it right. Ways to generate income while blogging is endless!
Alright, so the purpose of this post is to help give you a head start on how you can easily create your very own blog or website.
1. Choose a hosting plan for your blog/website
Web hosting is basically where you will store your website. There are plenty of hosting companies out there, you just need to find the perfect one that will suit your needs.
You must have thought, why buy when you can create a blog for free from Blogger or WordPress.com? That is a BIG NO! NO!
Why buy your own hosting instead of free blogging websites?
Hey, just to clear things up, I have no problem with these two websites. They are both great, I actually started blogging through Blogspot. However, I don’t advise to start with these 2 if you want to make more money from it because they have lots of limitations:
- You can’t modify your website 100%
- You don’t have full control
- It may not look like a professional website because of the free .blogspot domain (though you can purchase your domain)
- You can’t add plugins
- Looks more of a blog than a professional website
Well, again, if you are serious about making money through blogging, you should gain trust from other companies, especially your audience.
How are you going to do that? By having your own hosting and domain name instead of free domain names from free hosting sites.
Please save yourself from doing this mistake if you are planning to make more money through blogging.
Most affiliate programs requires self-hosted websites, otherwise you can’t join them. If we can’t join their affiliate program we are already losing money.
You won’t be able to generate income from it, and what is our goal again? Make money through blogging. That’s right!
Alright, let me give you an example:
What if, while searching, you found information from www.yourblogname.blogspot.com but you also found one from www.yourblogname.com. If you are say the “customer” looking for an answer, which website are you going to click first?
Don’t deny it. Of course, self-hosted websites looks more reliable than free blogging sites, which means more people will visit self-hosted websites than free blogging sites.
Hanggang saan aabot ang 200 pesos mo?
Sounds familiar? Hahaha!
Yeah, I’m using that commercial as an example. Thank you.
Alright, so for this post, let me introduce you to a hosting company I trust. We will use Bluehost as an example.
Aside from being one of the most popular hosting company, Bluehost is relatively affordable and you can easily reach out to their customer support 24/7.
Now, the ultimate question is:
Bluehost’s regular hosting plan costs USD 7.99 per month for 3 years, this is expensive for people like me, but with my referral link, you can get it for as low as USD 3.95/Php 210.28 (currency conversion as of this writing) per month for 3 years with FREE DOMAIN Registration!
For only Php 210 per month, you will have your very own blog!
“I personally consider having a blog or a website is an asset. Why? Because if you manage it properly and have gained thousands of audience per month, you will be able to generate income from it.”
This is going to be the best Php 210 pesos per month that you will ever spend.
Are you ready to start your blog?
2. Brainstorm your Kick-ass Domain Name
Your domain name will be your blog’s address. This is what people will enter in their URL to get into your website.
When thinking of a blog name, I suggest to keep it simple and easy to spell and remember.
Avoid names with numbers, special characters and complicated spelling. I’m sure you don’t want anyone asking you,
“Hey, is it 3 as a number, spelled number three or tree as a plant?”
“Do you mean mrs as an abbreviation or misses spelled out?”
Get what I mean? Perfect!
One useful tool I used when searching for my domain name is namecheckr. They can help you check if your preferred name is still available throughout social media platforms.
You can also use Bluehost domain search below for your convenience:
3. Buy your hosting and register your domain
To register your domain with Bluehost simply enter it on the field provided after you select your hosting plan.
After you enter your domain name, fill-out your Account Information.
In the Package Information section, select 36 months to get the discounted price from my recommendation.
This way you do not need to worry about paying monthly or quarterly. Moreover, by paying in bulk, you can also avoid losing audience just because your website were shut down due to unpaid bills.
Plus, without worrying about paying your subscription monthly, you can focus more on creating contents for your website. You’ll have more time improving your site’s traffic at the same time.
Focus more on your goal and leave hosting job to Bluehost. [wink!]
Don’t get confused with the package extras being offered.
You just need Domain Privacy Protection for now. This is to hide your identity from WHOIS and will help you protect your personal information from the public. Giving you security against identity theft. In a nutshell, it is a must extras.
4. Connect your domain to your web hosting
If you registered your domain name with Bluehost, you can skip this step. Your domain and hosting will be automatically connected.
If you are transferring your domain, this link will provide you detailed guide on how you can connect it to Bluehost’s nameservers: https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/transfer
Bluehost’s nameservers are: ns1.bluehost.com and ns2.bluehost.com
Your new DNS settings will begin to propagate as soon as you save your changes. Each ISP updates at a different rate, usually taking 24 – 72 hours to complete worldwide. During this time, your emails will be down, and your web traffic will be directed to either the old or new host, depending on the visitor’s ISP. – Bluehost
5. Installing WordPress
Now that you already have a your own hosting and domain (yay!), let’s install WordPress.
WordPress is a powerful tool you can use to build your website. It is the most popular website builder being used by multiple companies, blogs and web developers.
I am not going to make things complicated for you. Installing WordPress is pretty simple.
To start, here is a guide from Bluehost’s website for you:
- Log in to your Bluehost cPanel account.
- Find the Website section and select Install WordPress.
- Click the Install button.
- Choose the domain name to install it to.
- If necessary, you can edit the email address, username and password for the new WordPress installation. Click “advanced options” and you can change those settings.
- Read through the license and service agreements and check the boxes.
- Select the Install Now button.
Congratulations! You now have your own blog/website. Time to create killer contents that will give you more traffic!
